And he told me that any kid under 2 can get a free pass to come in. He looked at me and told me it is strange because kid about 2 year old can’t walk yet usually. The guy asked me how old she is and I told him she is 2 year old. I came in with my wife and my 2 year old daughter recently. The Place is alright but the front desk services is terrible. I must say that some of the fish tanks feel small for the amount of fish there, but all the animals are well treated and friendly for kids to pet them. She fed the tucans too, played with the big and small fish and spent a big about of time with the ones that tickle. There are always opportunities for them to feed the animals there and it was a well spent day. When we went, there were school groups and the staff even gave us some of the leftovers for our daughter to feed some of the fish. Even the small one was attentive to all things happening around, it was great. The aquarium isn't big, but with small kids you want to give them the time and space they need to feel comfortable. So many things to see and do there and the staff are so awesome. We spent the entire day there after coming back after lunch. The Austin Aquarium is free for children under 3, so we only had to pay for 2 adults, thus a great deal. We were looking for something to do with my daughter (almost 3 years old) and without having to pay an extra ticket for the 6 months old. I visited Austin Aquarium last month with the whole family and it was great. Not surprised if they have thought about expansion to a much larger space like an old abandoned big box building where it seems very popular and feel very congested in bumping into people and perhaps enlarge the exhibits.īut as is the Austin Aquarium is a great place to bring your little ones to enjoy encounters with a variety of sea-life and land dwellers. One drawback is this place needs better air filtration where I felt it very stuffy and with the smell of birds, lemurs, and water tanks. I did not see any private rooms for birthday parties. In the front will find the restrooms and gift shop, and the back there is a snack bar and seating. The kids here pretty much had a field day and something you can’t do anywhere else in Austin. You can hold many animals and dip your hands into tanks to feel a wide range to sea critters. The distinct experience here is the fact you can interact with more animals than any other place I have been to. You can add tokens for animal encounters. We did and had our passes which made the check in process much quicker. The hold up was people in front of us did not pre-purchase tickets on the website. When we finally able to get through the door there was a cage with huge iguanas to greet us. Just to note I was not expecting this aquarium to be on par with the Monterey Bay Aquarium but a place to experience seeing different types of sea life and land animals. And of course there was a line to enter, so we waited. Perhaps should have shown up on a weekday, but was able to find a spot. Upon arriving there was a large parking lot but looked full. My wife and I have a list of Austin places to visit and on it was the Austin Aquarium.
